What We Do
The mission of the La Buena Vida Youth Leadership Foundation is to improve the lives of North Texas students in need through programs that provide leadership development and higher education opportunities.
The Foundation offers several programs to help students achieve success and funds these programs through various annual events, partnerships and grants.
We want to recognize achievement and lend support to these youth in an effort to enhance their lives and bolster future success. Below are our current programs:

La buena Vida Living
La Buena Vida Living is the City of Irving’s first homeless shelter for teens. Under the guidance and partnership of the La Buena Vida Youth Leadership Foundation, Advocates for Homeless Teens and Bear Creek Community Development, extensive research and planning was conducted since the project’s inception in 2011. We celebrated a progress milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony on January 29, 2015 on an Irving house. Since then, the program has moved into apartments to allow for more flexibility and expansion. Our foundation continues to work with city leaders, community groups and our corporate partners to provide safe housing and a stable environment for the homeless teens attending high school in Irving.
Don’t be a follower. Get on the LeaderBoard!
LeaderBoard Summit: Dr. Paul Melendez, head of The University of Arizona’s Center for Leadership Ethics, and as part of its high school outreach program, spent a day last spring at the University of Dallas in Irving introducing business ethics to over 250 select Irving ISD students, teachers and staff. The Center brings together top research faculty and corporate partnerships to affect broad change in ethical leadership across business through, among other things, its high school outreach program.
Dr. Melendez intends to return in the fall of 2016. For more information, log on to http://ethics.eller.arizona.edu/outreach/.
Future Leaders of Irving (FLI)
Future Leaders of Irving (FLI) is a program for high school seniors with the mission, “To identify, educate, and develop our local youth to become future business and civic leaders, by exposing them to the elements and operations of local government, nonprofits and businesses through introductions by appropriate role models.”
